A number of years ago, the Western States Center asked me to join Eric Ward to do a workshop at CSTI on the Arab/Israeli conflict. As a Jew who opposes the Occupation and the Israeli settlements, but who was also concerned about apologists for antisemitism among progressive colleagues, I found it a really scary prospect. But because The Center was bold enough to ask, I was encouraged to be brave enough to accept. It was a wonderful experience. We have few other organizations willing to take those kinds of risks, and few venues in the movement where that dialogue could have taken place. Western States Center has built a culture of inquiry, diversity, mutual respect and joy that honors our collective work. Thank you. Happy Birthday. And many more.
